"Resting" at the Bargeman's

We drove into Newport today to do a little shopping and catch some lunch. For lunch, we went to the Bargeman's Rest whose motto is: If you have to get wrecked, this is no finer place to do it than from one of our waterside taverns. The interior of the pub carried a strong nautical theme. There was simply too much stuff to look at.

This is another high volume pub that looks as if though it can quickly turn over tables in high tourist season. Between the menu and the specials board, I was spoiled for choice. I ended up going "old school" and had bangers and mash...I know, I know...not very adventuresome...but so good. Both Bob and Alan had beef and suet puddings and Wendy had a salad.

True to form, the food arrived fast and hot. So hot in fact, I am still using my tongue to keep the skin on the roof of my mouth...3 hours later. The Bargeman's had a good selection of national and local beers. I settled...settled is the wrong word...delighted in a pint of Tangle Foot.
