What's on the Grill #287: Plank Roasted Pears with Blue Cheese
I like pears, but I don't exactly love them. However, add in honey, blue cheese, a wood plank, and a grill, and my "like" scale may just tick up several notches.
These can make a great appetizer, dessert, or both!
Planked-Roasted Pears with Blue Cheese
Adapted from Techniques for Planking
4 Pears
2 T unsalted butter, melted
2 T honey
1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
1 wood plank from Outdoor Gourmet
Fire up the grill for a two zone, medium high heat fire.
Slice the pears in half lengthwise and remove the core. Make sure to soak the plank in water for at least an hour.
Mix together the butter and honey. Brush the pear flesh with the mixture and then sprinkle with the blue cheese.
Place the plank, loaded with the pears, directly over the hot coals. Close the lid, but don't forget about them.
One the plank begins to smoke, move it to the indirect side of the grill.
Note, don't forget to keep an eye on the grill and specifically, the plank.
Planks are wood and can burn. If it happens to catch fire, use some water to dowse the flames and then keep on grilling.
The pears are done when they have blackened around the edges.
Remove from the grill, serve and enjoy.
