Warning!

Mike LangIsle of Wight
This week will be much different than last. We will hook up with a number of Zoe's friends this week and will spend much more time with Zoe's parents and Paul and Sam. Sam is due with the twins in April. To make things interesting, I am going to try and highlight some things I deam to be unusual and special to English culture. The first item I will highlight is an alcoholic warning label. In the US, we typically hide warnings on products in small print that is blended in with other mundane information: Ingredients include sugar, polysorbate 80. Contact with skin is bad.

In the UK, subtle is not known, nor is it practiced. Case in point:

Apparently a little friendly warning is not enough...graphics, flow charts and scientific formulas are. Personally, I am a 5 unit guy and I like my woman to be a 2 unit. Fortunately I know that 25 ml is a unit so I can safely consume 25ml x 5 units and reach my own sensible level. Oh yeah, don't drink and drive...and pillage.

Wait till I show you the warning labels on cigarettes. They basically design the packaging around the label.
