Shanklin
We took a quick tour of Shanklin today via the Isle of Wight Railroad. The original steam railway line used to cover 54 miles around the island. Today, the rail line runs between Ryde Pier and Shanklin. It is probably 25 minutes one way. You can still ride an old steam engine which covers a small nostalgic loop off of the current rail line.
The rail car you see above was in original service as a 1938 tube carriage in the London Underground.
Shanklin is a neat village and was bustling this morning. We ducked into a few shops, but really did not stay long since we lunch plans with the rest of the gang. One thing I did notice is that Shanklin wins the award for oddest restaurant names. Without further ado, I give you Chubby's, Ferret's and Mad Cow II. Hungry?
