From the Grates

Summer is flying by, and if it weren’t for the fact it’s 90 degrees outside, I would have no idea September is halfway over. Before long I will be complaining about the lack of evening sun and the need to don a jacket before firing up the grill. You’ve been warned!

Work has never been busier, so if you aren’t following along on Instagram, here are some updates.

Videos, Videos, Videos

Over the summer, I’ve created upwards of fifteen short-form videos for Weber. A number were for the iGrill, such as this brisket video on the Smokey Mountain Cooker (WSM).

And this video on the Q. As a side note, I rarely get to fire up the Q anymore, but every time I do I remember just how much I love grilling on it.

Besides the iGrill videos, I created a number of product accessory videos. Unlike videos for social, these are primarily used on e-commerce sites like Amazon or Walmart.

A video and photos for the Spirit rotisserie can be found here and this is an awesome example of one of my photographs used with a graphic.

It was a ton of work and a lot of food but as always a lot of fun.

The Caterers who aren’t Caterers

Thanks to our friends at the Rose Music Center, we catered two different events in the VIP section on the same day.

The guys looked at me like I had lost my mind when I told them just how much meat we were going to smoke…400 pounds. Thank goodness for Keith and an empty fridge…and this was only part of it!

Keep in mind, we do one-off catering events because they are fun. This one was almost too much, but as always, the guys can snatch victory from the lowest of lows, and this event was no different.

All in all, we fired up eleven grills and smokers across three decks to make it happen and for the day of the event, fired up two 22-inch WSMs to smoke the bacon wrapped poppers and banana boats.

When the signal was given to open the food lines, it was as if we had been ready for hours when in reality it was only a few minutes.

Our after work, or rather, almost-after work, beers went down too easy.

Still Grilling

While my grilling is quite task focused these days, I still can grill something for me…and maybe grab a few photos. Just last night I riffed on some smoked trout from The Japanese Grill cookbook I picked up at a thrift shop. (More on this to come...) And yes, that is some Yaki Onigiri on the back grate.

Other items from the grill?

Huevos Rancheros.

Hamburgers.

And a “grilled” a pie for dinner.

What’s on your grill?

And don’t forget, I’ll soon have to “look forward” to this!
